Vacuum Decay Test

ASTM F2338 Standard Test Method for Nondestructive Detection of Leaks in Packages by Vacuum Decay Method

The ASTM F2338 vacuum leak test method is used for identifying links in rigid and semi-rigid packages sealed with porous barrier lidding materials. This vacuum integrity test can be utilized on both rigid and flexible packaging.

Industry Application

Vacuum decay testing is a non-destructive, whole-package integrity test. It is commonly performed on a package where the test sensitivity requirements are high. This test often applies to pharmaceutical or biological packaging where test sensitivities are determined by the viscosity of the media inside. This method of leak testing requires more time to perform  than others due to the need for a custom fixture and test method validation for each package.
